Training opportunities

These sessions include PTC specific sessions, coached swimming session by the local authority and sessions where club member have taken it upon themselves to meet and train.

Mount Batten Centre Members Open water swimming Due to the water temperature these sessions will only take place between April and October. We will post in advance when these sessions are starting for the next Summer period.
Monday 18:15-19:00 Mount Batten Centre Free Junior training This is a club coached session, email to the Juniors Coordinator for more information. The session will be tailored to fit all abilities and will be periodised to incorporate base, pre-race, race and post-race season.
Monday 18:30-19:30 Mount Batten Centre Members Turbo trainer session This is a club coached session and takes place in one of the rooms available in the Mount Batten Centre. For this session you will require: a bike, turbo trainer, mat/towel for the floor and a drink. There may be a few spare turbo's to use on the night.
Though we encourage non members to attend the run session, it is intended that the turbo session will be for members of the club only. Please arrive in time to set up and start the session at 6.30pm prompt.
Monday 19:45-20:45 Mount Batten Centre Members Run session This is a club coached session, which takes place on the roads and open spaces around Mount Batten Centre. The session will be tailored to fit all abilities and will be periodised to incorporate base, pre-race, race and post-race season.
Many days Marsh Mills / others Free Cycle Many of our members ride out with a local friendly group of cyclists called YOGi. They have planned rides on Saturday, Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays for all abilities; road and mountain bike. See their website for more info.
We also advise to visit our forum training section where you'll find members of the club planning cycling rides that might be suit to your needs.

Becoming a coach

The club currently has 5 British Triathlon Federation qualified coaches. The coach levels awarded by the BTF are:

  • Level 1: The level 1 coaching role has been defined as: assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision.
    They will have an introductory knowledge of triathlon coaching, covering basic swimming, cycling and running techniques and equipment.
  • Level 2: The level 2 coaching role has been defined as:"Prepare for, deliver and review coaching sessions".
    They will have knowledge of intermediate swimming, cycling and running techniques and equipment required to deliver club coaching sessions.
  • Level 3: The level 3 coach has the role of planning, implementing, analysing and revise the annual coaching programmes.

The club has funding that can be used to send members on the BTF coaching courses. Information on the courses can be found on this section of the BTF website.
