Run leg information

  • Run leg is a 10.3km multi-terrain route in a single lap including the Murder Hill, a 600m steep hill at 12% gradient ascent that starts at km 4.

  • Exit transition and turn left, heading out of the Mountbatten peninsula along the same route as for the bike leg (Lawrence Road). Stay on Lawrence Road, following the signs until the left turn for Turnchapel is reached, this turn is signed and marshalled.
  • Short, steep downhill follows. Turning right at the end of this road, continue to follow the signs around to Hooe Lake.
  • You are now on Barton Road and should have the water on your left. Look for the railings at the end of Hooe Lake, turn left toward the Royal Oak Pub staying on the path as you go.
  • Look for the next marshal point and head up a short climb (Hexton Hill). At the top signs shall direct you into the entrance of the park. This next section is off-road, well signed and marked out with hazard tape wherever possible.
  • Follow the footpath until the next marshal point, turning left here and following the fence keep the sewerage works on your right.
  • Take care when descending down the initial stepped section of this path. At the end of the path you will see the gatehouse lodge for Radford Lake and park.
  • Continue until the next signed/marshal point which shall direct you to turn right, heading into the main park area. You are still off road and on the flat. Always keeping the lake on your right, continue to follow the path and signs as directed; you exit the park area at Radford dip (Hooe Road).
  • Turn right as directed and continue up the hill staying on the footpath as you ascend. At the top of this short climb is a pedestrian crossing, which will be marshalled. Cross the road here and turn left into Belle Vue Road after approximately 100m. Signs shall direct you to the right as the road curves toward the wooded area and you'll find the water station, right before you begin the 1km ascent known as Murder Hill.

  • Follow the signs and turn left when instructed, continue to ascend until you see the aid station at the top of the hill. Turn right onto Staddon Lane; follow this road until signs direct you to turn left toward Bovisand beach. The road to Bovisand is a descent, although not sharp. At the end of this road signs shall direct you through the car park area toward the next marshal point. Turn right here and ascend several flights of steps up onto the coastal footpath. Keeping Jennycliff bay on your left stay on the path until you reach a wooden gate where you MUST turn RIGHT up onto the road for a short winding downhill which will be well marshalled, then LEFT into the top of the field leading down past the Jennycliff cafe.
  • Further signs will direct you through his next section, once through the clearing you should now have the Mountbatten Centre directly ahead of you. Head toward the left slightly and look out for the sign directing you down a sharp descent. The surface here requires caution, as there is some loose gravel. Turn left toward the transition area at the end of this path and stay on the left all the way back to the transition area. At the roundabout at the end of the road turn right toward the finish area as directed.
